News from Swedish startups, the tech sector and VCs

  • Parametric Solutions, Gothenburg-based design platform for property development and modular construction, was named "Startup of the Year" at the Venture Cup Sweden final (Swedish, machine translation).
  • AI Sweden added 15 new startups to the Swedish AI Startup Landscape, which now features 198 AI startups (English).
  • Kavall, Stockholm-based hyper-local rapid grocery delivery startup, announced in a press release which was covered by basically every media outlet (well done PR!) that it "immediately" will recruit 200 part time riders and dark store "pickers" on hourly rates in Sweden due to "faster growth than expected" (Swedish, machine translation).
  • Readly, Växjö-based subscription service for digital magazines, is adding Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) – one of Sweden's 2 nationwide main morning newspapers – to its offering. In return, SvD "will get access to Readly's user data and advertising statistics" (English).
  • 📺 The founders of Gofrendly – Stockholm-based social network for women to make new friends – Ulrika Lilja and Claudia Gård, talk about their startup journey and its ups and downs (Swedish, 9 minutes)
  • Sting opened applications for next year’s Incubate and Accelerate programs (English).

Other interesting things from the startup/VC world & beyond

  • Funding for Q3 in Europe totaled $16B, down 44% year over year from $28B and down 35% quarter over quarter from $24 billion (English).
  • France-based Resonance is a new $150M VC fund focusing on seed and Series A investments ranging from €100K to €10M across Europe (English).
  • Finch Capital published it 7th State of European FinTech report, anticipating cooling and consolidation (English).
  • After months of anticipation, Polestar has pulled the entire sheet off its first-ever electric SUV, the Polestar 3 (English).
  • Sweden's inflation rate was 9.7% in September 2022, again more than expected (English, Swedish).
  • This is not the first analysis of IKEA's store layout I'm linking to, but one that has a more critical angle, arguging that the furniture giant is maintaing a complex labyrinth and using "war psychology" (confusion, camouflage, and attrition) to wear down and coerce shoppers (English).
  • White, black and grey – in that order – are the most common colors of cars registered in Sweden in 2022 (Swedish, machine translation).
