Funding news

  • PlayReplay (Stockholm, real-time sports tracking solution): undisclosed amount from Njord Ventures and angel investors such as Jacob Waern, Daniel Franck, Jonas Eriksson, Henrik Eskilsson and John Patrick Berlips (English).

News from Swedish startups, the tech sector and VCs

  • An interview with Sami Osman, the 25-year old co-founder and CEO of Gothenburg-based investor relations app Quartr. He talks about how the startup's founders all met on Twitter and only saw each other IRL over 9 months after starting the company, and how entrepreneurship changes when younger millennials and Gen Z are leading companies (English / EU-startups soft paywall, alternative URL). Disclosure: Quartr is a sponsor of my other newsletter Swedish Tech Weekly.
  • Stockholm Impact Week, arranged by Invest in Stockholm, Norrsken and STHLM TECH Meetup, will take place from Sept 6-14. All events are now open for registration (English).
  • Swedish impact-focused investment firm Summa Equity is opening an office in Palo Alto, Silicon Valley (English).
  • For the second year in a row, Klarna CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski wins Sifted's inofficial and tongue-in-cheek "best founder photo award" (English).

Swedish tech earnings reports

  • Storytel (Stockholm, audiobook and ebook subscription service) grew group net sales by 28% from Q2 2021 to Q2 2022, to SEK781M (€75M, $76M), and achieved a small positive EBITDA (if excluding "items affecting comparability")(English).

Other interesting things from the startup/VC world & beyond

  • Musings on the "How can I be helpful?" meme that's been surrounding VCs during the past years, usually with a critical tone, implying a lack of added value to startups. But of course, there's more nuance to this (English).
