Hyper-local grocery delivery service Kavall declared bankrupt

Kavall, a Stockholm-based based hyper-local grocery delivery service, has been declared bankrupt, according to public Swedish company data.
Kavall was originally founded in 2021, and acquired by Swedish online grocery company Mathem in a type of emergency exit in March 2023. In November 2023, Mathem announced a merger with the Norwegian industry peer Oda, mostly to cut notorious losses through synergies. The company's interest in continuing operating Kavall post-merger waned, and in spring 2024, Kavall's former CPO Erel Sherman bought the service and brand back, to run it independently.
Now, five months late, the journey has already ended again. Erel Sherman tells Di Digital that "business was developing well", but that Kavall failed to raise the needed funding. He now plans to run the technical platform (which is owned by a separate entity and not affected by the bankruptcy) as a SaaS solution under the brand Freshli, provided that he can raise money for that.
